Loon Watch Update on Lake Mascoma

On Saturday July 17th under the able leadership of Terri Lynch, President MLA, a group of volunteers spread out across the lake to take the annual loon census. The teams divided the lake into zones with one team per zone to insure that no loon would be counted twice. Each team recorded their sightings along with the time of the sighting and the results were compiled. The loon population on Mascoma Lake is 4. Hopefully, next year we will see the return of the baby loon born on Mascoma Lake last year. Terri would like to thank all of the volunteers for taking the time to support the census.

Mascoma Lake Association Annual Meeting

Saturday July 24th

Community Center, Huse Park, Enfield NH

The annual meeting was held on July 24th with reports from the president, Terry Lynch, and committee chairs. Please check this site over the next couple of days for more specifics and on some pictures from the meeting. The bottom line is that we as residents and visitors to Lake Mascoma are very lucky with the number and skills of the volunteers that monitor and work to insure the health of our Lake and surrounding waterways. Thank you again for what you do!

The keynote speaker was Alex Vogt of the NH DOT who provided an update about the Shaker bridge project and answered all questions. Thank you Mr. Vogt. A new section to the website will be added shortly where we will post information about the construction scheduled to begin this fall.

Membership in the Mascoma Lake Association

If you did not bring your completed membership application, whether joining for the first time or renewing your membership, please mail it along with your dues and Millfoil eradication donation to Tricia Barr. The address is on the application.

The MLA is your voice in both Lebanon and Enfield as well as with the State of New Hampshire. Your support is needed to make sure that that voice is heard. Please open the attached membership application and join us to protect and enhance Lake Mascoma and the surrouding rivers and streams. We need your Support

ValleyNet sponsors an email discussion list for the Mascoma towns of Canaan, Dorchester, Enfield, Grafton, and Orange. It is open to anyone who wants to participate, and its goal is to create a sense of community and neighborhood for the residents of these towns, for topics specific to these towns.
