Mascoma  Lake Needs You!
   by Madeleine Johnson

Have you ever wondered what Lake Mascoma would be like if its waters were clogged by milfoil?
Have you ever wondered what Lake Mascoma would be like if the water were not clean?
Have you ever wondered what Lake Mascoma would be like if you didn't hear loons calling at night?
Have you ever wondered what Lake Mascoma would be like if there were unrestrained development?

It is thanks to MLCA in general and several members in particular that these are still only images.  For too many years to count, we have all relied on President Harry Trumbull's energy and resources.  We have also enjoyed his quick-paced annual meetings.

The unrelenting efforts of the milfoil committee, run by Marta and Roger Barnes and staffed by numerous volunteers have kept milfoil under control.  In addition to keeping our lake inviting for swimming and boating, freedom from milfoil keeps real estate values high.

The efforts of the MLCA's water quality committee, Jim Martel and his helpers, have kept the lake's water quality high.  High water quality brings loons to our lake and the loon watchers and counters protect the loons so that we can all enjoy their mysterious profiles and haunting cries in the dusk.  And if development were not closely watched for abuses that hurt us all, we would all suffer.

If you have enjoyed the results of the MLCA's volunteer efforts, thank them; better yet, join and share in the good works.  The MLCA is a non-partisan organization whose purpose is to bring lake residents together, help them understand issues, and provide a forum for discussing them in a constructive way.  Residents are encouraged to present their concerns, so that they can be responded to in a timely and effective fashion.

Many of the Board Members and volunteers have served MLCA over the last 15 years.  New blood is needed.  Please join the organization and help with the many good works throughout the year.  You do not need to be a full time resident to volunteer.  Please speak with any Board Member at the Annual Meeting or use the email link to drop us a line!
